Door to Door Trading and Telemarketing

While it is now less common for tradespeople to physically go from door to door selling goods and services, selling by telephone has become a common experience for consumers.

Such 'telemarketing' is still covered by the door to door trading legislation in Part 7 of the Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading Act.

The following fact sheet provides tips and advice on your rights when considering dealing with door to door traders or telemarketers.

A door to door trader is required to provide you with a completed ‘Right to Rescind Door to Door Contract’ form at or immediately before the making of the contract. Don't forget to keep a copy in a safe place.

If you wish to exercise your right to rescind a door-to-door trading contract, print the attached ‘Rescission of Contract’ form and forward to the completed form to the trader. Don't forget to keep a copy in a safe place.
