Providing Legal Services
The Legal Services section provides Government with high quality, timely, whole-of-government legal services on strategic issues.
Strategic Legal Services
These services include civil litigation and commercial work. The Aboriginal Land Unit is focused on achieving more certainty in land administration by clarification of the scope of native title rights and interests as well as issues arising under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Cth).
Solicitor-General
The Solicitor-General also provides legal services to the Attorney-General.
Agency Legal Services
Since 1997, most legal services to Government are provided by the private legal profession. The Department of Justice continues to have a role in procuring legal services from the private profession via the Agency Legal Services group.
